Who I am

My name is Sebastian Gorklo, I’m a published photographer currently residing in the city I was born in; Denver, Colorado. I’ve always had an affinity for art, be it drawing, music, paintings, anything that challenges and expresses our emotions. Growing up, I would love to take photos and videos, especially while skateboarding in high school. Funny enough, I never took a photography class in school and didn’t even pick up a DSLR camera until I was in my early 20s. But the path I’ve taken in life has led me to a passion I never knew I had, and now I couldn’t be happier! Being a photographer has taken me many places and helped me meet many great people, so I am very thankful that I found it.

In 2016, I started to go on hikes in the mountains with some friends very frequently. Living in Colorado my whole life, I have been to the mountains countless times, but never as consistently as in more recent years. My good friend, Katie, had a Canon camera that I asked to borrow for a few trips up to the mountains, and I eventually bought it off of her. People started to compliment the photos that I was sharing on social media, which led to a high school friend asked me to photograph her wedding. I understood the importance of such a thing and proudly delivered them pictures that they loved. I haven’t been able to put down my camera since!

What kind of photography I enjoy most

Truth be told, I really enjoy doing landscape photography the most. Traveling to a new part of the world and seeing the beauty before me is a feeling I really try to endure and capture in my pictures. My dream job is to travel and work for National Geographic. That being said, I love photographing people, events, animals and architecture as well! Working weddings and other events as a photographer is always a great time for me because I get to be part of a very special day, as well as work around people. Knowing that people trust in me to capture important photos for them is a great honor. In addition to photography gigs, some days I will just go downtown and take pictures of the buildings and city life, or go to a wildlife refuge and try to spot wild animals. I really will photograph anything that I enjoy and anything that pays. Even if it’s not something in my forte, I always want to try shooting new things.
